In Memoriam - Jocelyn McGillivray

STRANGELY BORN ©1990 Jocelyn McGillivray

The only thing to know, the only thing to know.
The only thing to know.

Along streets they walk, each one in a foreign land.
And in words they can talk, but words are just a false command.
Caught in this dark circus, through ringing time,
Looking for a reason to somehow beautify the crimes.

In a ready unreadiness to be so slowly born;
Like silence, each humanity is shattered and formed.
In the darkness of waiting, with so little to find,
Strong in the feeble throes of reason, but merely trying in the forceps of time.

Strangely born, they birth each other
Strangely torn, they teach each other
And what they show to each other
Is the only thing to know, the only thing to know.

Like nations speaking through masking dissonance,
Not exchanging truth, just pretended innocence.
Power plagues us, self-righteous in our cries,
Blinded by the reasons we use to justify.

Everyone in the no-one's land inbetween yours and mine
Searching and hiding in one silent cry.
Haunted by the familiarity of inner softness behind frozen eyes,
Naked in the truth behind each lie...

Strangely born, we birth each other
Strangely torn, we reach each other
And what we know with each other
Is the only thing to know, the only thing to know.

And is it this, to be human, stranded on unfamiliar streets
Where all I have is my approximation of honesty?
In a thousand lifetimes of searching for You,
Reaching out to shadows who pass, in a world still gestating for You, where

Strangely born, they birth each other
Strangely torn, they teach each other
And what they show to each other
Is the only thing to know, the only thing to know.

Strangely born, we birth each other
Strangely torn, we reach each other
And what we know with each other
Is the only thing to know, the only thing to know.

The only thing to know... the only thing to know.
The only thing to know... the only thing to know.
